Our Services

Luc has been our financial advisor for over 5 years now. I originally met Luc during a Pension Plan  consultation at work. His genuine interest in our financial future inspired us to relocate funds currently stagnating into a successfully managed portfolio. In addition, he has guided us through the purchase of an investment condo. In light of our comfort level with Luc, our daughter has now started her investment portfolio with Luc as well.

As part of his maintenance program, we meet annually with Luc to review our financial situation. As retirement approaches we now feel better prepared for what lies ahead.

We focus in fee-based, discretionary wealth management. We also offer traditional wealth management, complete retirement planning services, a multitude of insurance* and risk management products.

*Insurance products provided through Hollis Insurance.

What is discretionary wealth management?2018-03-12T13:17:46-04:00

Few organizations are permitted to provide discretionary management. To do so, Portfolio Managers must complete the most demanding educational, experiential and organizational requirements and meet the highest conditions of registration with securities commissions.

What is a Portfolio Manager?2018-03-12T13:17:40-04:00

Portfolio Managers are fiduciaries who must meet the highest conditions of registration with the securities commissions and are held to a very strict code of conduct. Less than 5% of all investment advisors in Canada are licenced Portfolio Managers. To receive PM licensing, an advisor must hold either a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation or a Chartered Investment Manager® (CIM®) designation, as well as complete a rigorous application process with their firm and the regulators.

What is an Investment Policy Statement (IPS)?2018-03-12T13:17:32-04:00

A Portfolio Manager develops a written agreement called Policy Statement, or IPS. This IPS sets out the investment goals and objectives of the client and describes the investment strategies suitable to meet those objectives. The IPS takes into account specific needs, including risk tolerance, time horizon and investment philosophy. Your IPS is the basis upon which we select an appropriate mix of investments and make discretionary adjustments to your portfolio, and it lays out the framework for how your portfolio is managed.

Is financial planning the same as investment advice?2018-03-12T13:17:26-04:00

Not at all. Financial planning takes a comprehensive look at all your circumstances to ensure your finances (budgeting, cash flow management, borrowing, insurance, investing, tax planning, etc.) fit with your goals and preferences. Investment advice ensures that the marketable securities in your plan align with your financial planning goals.

What is a fiduciary?2018-03-12T13:17:20-04:00

Portfolio Managers have a legal obligation, or fiduciary duty, to act with care, honesty and good faith, always in the best interest of clients. Investment decisions must be independent and free of bias. This differs from advisors who are not Portfolio Managers and who generally have a “duty of care” required. Fiduciary duty puts a much higher level of trust placed on Portfolio Managers.

A head for numbers. A heart for people.

Hollis Insurance.

Luc Bessette offers a wide array of services, ranging from investment planning and strategies to insurance and income tax reports. He chose to join HollisWealth in 2003 in large part because it gave him the latitude needed to serve his clients with integrity and in accordance to his personal values. Luc believes that by maintaining his independence, he can serve his clients without having a pressure to sell.

When Luc started his business in 1999, he first completed his Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA) certification, helping him understand the needs of an aging population. He later obtained the title of the CFP® or CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation giving him the skills needed to prepare and present detailed financial plans.

He is very clear: his loyalty is to people—with jobs, families and commitments—, not to a product. He wants his clients to clearly understand how to manage their finances and make informed decisions based on their individual needs and goals. A large share of Luc’s clientele is made up of retirees, young families, professionals and entrepreneurs. He personalizes his approach for each of them to make sure they are fully satisfied.
Luc’s dedication, strong work ethics and passion for financial planning have been key contributors to his ongoing success.
